David’s relaxed in-home newborn session perfectly captured his precious first season of life!
This photo session was extra special for me because David is a member of our family. Newborn sessions are always sweet, but this one was even more so because of my connection with the family. As you can see, mom and dad are enchanted by their beautiful baby boy, and so am I!
Newborn sessions take place in your little one’s earliest days before they are fourteen days old. Since these photoshoots happen when you are still adjusting to life with a new baby, parents can sometimes feel stressed about how to prepare. But as David’s photos show, a relaxed in-home newborn session is entirely possible. A few simple steps of prep work go a long way to getting the newborn photos you’re dreaming about. They’ll also help keep the whole family happy and comfortable along the way!
The number one most important part of my photography aesthetic is lighting. Getting all the natural light possible is crucial for in-home newborn sessions. Scheduling the shoot when natural lighting is best, and opening curtains and blinds are super easy ways to get the dreamiest photos from your in-home photography session.
Another essential part of preparing for your newborn shoot is making sure your home is comfortable for your baby. Little ones get cold fast, so turn up the heat. Once your home is nice and warm, we can get all those photos of your newborn baby’s tiny toes, little fingers, and brand-new baby skin while keeping them cozy.
A drowsy baby is ideal for any newborn session. If you can keep your baby awake before your session, it will help baby sleep through the photos. Also, babies with full bellies are the happiest babies. So, be sure to feed your little one before the session begins. Of course, life rarely goes according to plan, so we can pause for you to feed your baby at any point. Then, we’ll get back to capturing all the cuteness!
Lastly, you’ll need to decide what everyone is going to wear. For some parents, choosing what their baby will wear is one of the most stressful parts of preparing for a newborn session. But when you work with me, it doesn’t have to be! When I arrive for a newborn session, I always bring along my newborn closet so parents can pick out their baby’s outfit on the day of the shoot if they’d like to. I also bring swaddles, blankets, and the cutest bassinet from Design Dua.
Whether you have every detail planned or have a general vision and need help with the rest, it is possible to have a relaxed in-home newborn session!
